Turbine test cells are used for testing and evaluating the performance, reliability, and safety of gas turbine engines commonly used in aerospace applications. Primarily for commercial and military aircraft, these engines must meet stringent industry standards before being installed in aircraft or other applications. Part of monitoring the tests has to include the ability to start, stop, and govern the engine in real-time from the turbine test cell’s control room.
The Low-Pressure Turbine Test Cell, a key component in this discussion, is designed to simulate turbo fan blade malfunction scenarios. The brake application, a crucial safety measure, is required to stop the fan in a very short time, minimising damage and ensuring maximum safety. The large range of torques and extended braking periods needed to test different products using the same rig further underlines our commitment to safety in testing.
The end-user initially requested a caliper brake or a low inertia style multi-plate brake. However, the application review revealed that the heat calculated in this application made these options unviable. In response, a proven suitable alternative, the Water Cooled Brake 224 (WCB), was proposed for this installation. This solution, a result of the successful partnership between ourselves, Industrial Clutch Parts (ICP) and WPT and is evidence of our commitment to providing the best performance and reliability for our customers.
WPT and ICP’s continual customer success stems from 30 years of partnership. We are one of the most awarded distributorships, tasked with developing the UK market and have moved into supporting WPT products in other European countries.

ICP Ltd understand the responsibility we have to reducing “indirect emissions” through our supply chain.
Scope 3 emissions, also known as “indirect emissions”, encompass all the greenhouse gas emissions associated with an organisation’s activities that occur outside its direct control or ownership. They are most often found in the supply chain and are often most difficult to measure. Effectively addressing Scope 3 emissions is essential for a comprehensive approach to carbon footprint reduction, more sustainable business practices and to be compliant with new regulations.
With our partner Cargo Overseas we have signed to their ‘Just One Tree’ programme. With every booking we make they will plant one tree.
Just One Tree are part of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and do not just focus on planting trees but also raising environmental awareness in the classrooms of our future generations.

Industrial Clutch Parts (ICP) continue to build their strong partnership with WPT Power Corporation.
Last month, two members of ICP sales team attended training in Texas, to develop their technical knowledge and understanding of WPT’s mechanical power transmission product line.
The team spent a week at WPT Power’s head office, undertaking both theoretical and hands-on training. Throughout the week, group sessions focused on Engine Driven Products, specifically power take-off clutches, Industrial Clutches and Industrial Brakes. ICP’s applications Engineer Javier Lozano then spent a further 2 weeks working with the WPT team to gain valuable, in-depth knowledge across the range of products.
As WPT’s leading distributor, ICP understands the need to provide responsive and knowledgeable sales and technical support worldwide. The strong partnership between ICP and WPT provides a customer care approach to ensure product needs are met quickly and with minimum downtime.

INDUSTRIAL CLUTCH PARTS work with LIBERTY STEEL to provide INVERTER-CONTROLLED BRAKES to prevent “LOAD SWING”
As a manufacturer of large pipes, Liberty Steel has to take extra care to prevent “load swing” when handling particularly long pipe sections at its Hartlepool Works. Such sections can quickly become a hazard if allowed to get out of control, and have to be moved very carefully inside the works by EOT cranes. In particular, the Long Travel crane motion brakes need to be carefully and progressively applied, and traditionally this has always been by means of hydraulic foot pedal-operated drum brakes on their older cranes, which have proved increasingly difficult to maintain.
ICP were able to supply drop-in SIBRE 16” and 19” (Imperial) drum brakes with unique inverter-controlled ELDRO electrohydraulic thrusters by means of a “fly-by-wire” electronic foot pedal, giving very smooth and progressive braking control.
This latest installation is the third such carried out at the site, where this is now the preferred control method, having proven highly reliable. Units are available with either a simple foot-pedal operation, or can even incorporate a programmable pre-set ramp for crane operation by remote control.

Industrial Clutch Parts Ltd. continues to be the number 1 international distributor for WPT Power
and we are happy to offer the NEW WPT Power Hydraulic 14H Type 1 and Type 2 PTOs with the mechanical wear indicator.
The hydraulic line of Power Take-off (PTO) units from WPT Power has the new wear indicator as standard on all new 14H PTO assemblies. The implementation of the indicator is a refined and easy-to-use design with a spring-release, and stepped indicator pin. Checking wear is easily accomplished with a three-step process:
1. Remove the inspection cover
2. Engage the PTO
3. Observe the indicator pin
If you are not able to see the pin protruding from the access hole, this means you still have more than 50 percent life. When the pin is flush with the backplate the clutch is at the 50 percent wear point. When the lower step of the pin is flush with the backplate, it is time to replace!
Python™ Clutch Control
WPT didn’t just stop there. We also upgraded the Python™ Hydraulic Clutch Control as well. So, if you order a Python™&nbs -

What is a Water-Cooled Brake?
Since high temperatures negatively impact a brake’s performance, traditional brakes that rely on friction engaged with iron plates perform poorly in these applications. Water-cooled brakes, however, use internal water flow to absorb and dissipate large amounts of thermal energy generated during braking. In conjunction with the coolant, it takes advantage of the copper wear plate’s ability to provide excellent heat transfer. This makes them ideal for heavy-duty equipment applications where traditional brakes would fail due to the high temperatures generated.
How Do Water-Cooled Brakes Work?
Slipping torque is the chief characteristic of the water-cooled brake’s unique design. The brake is either pneumatically or hydraulically actuated, engaging the drive plate (brake pads) and then applying pressure to the disc. The pressure used for constant tensioning generates a vast amount of heat. The water source is directed through a series of channels within the brake to cool copper alloy discs. The heat is then transferred from the disc to flowing water in the channels, which absorb the energy and move it externally.
Supposing a closed-loop cooling system versus an open one, the heated water is pumped into a heat exchanger for cooling. The cooled water is then circulated back
